Self-service reporting model in virtual desktop access in hybrid cloud

September 10, 2020 by Bluetab

Self-service reporting model in virtual desktop access in hybrid cloud

As the main data solutions partner for one of the leading financial institutions in the Spanish market, we participated with their architecture area on an innovative Business Intelligence as a Service project aimed at offering users of different areas of the bank the possibility of exploiting data using any market exploitation tool, by passing the cost of use to the area and deploying the BI tool on Public Cloud infrastructure while keeping the data governed in the Private Cloud.

For this purpose, the front end was adapted to include the service as a new resource in Sandbox Manager, performing back-end jobs for authentication of the new service with the current systems, integration with current platform monitoring and subsequent integration with AWS for provision of the Billing & monitoring service.

The final self-service report is generated under WebFOCUS, MicroStrategy, Tableau and Domo products, mainly consisting of our work in development and operation – DevOps – with automation of deployment and the initial Setup, implementation/configuration of AMIs for the various reporting products, as well as specific communication with the defined protocol and configuration of Fireglass.

Optimisation of the On-line Centre and Customer Profitability Module

Optimisation of the On-line Centre and Customer Profitability Module

Encompassed within the collaboration framework with the technology area of one of the largest Spanish financial institutions is the reviewing and improvement of its Big Data processes, considering both the redesigning of the developments and reviewing of the execution environment.

To this end, a review of the production environment was carried out by performing a realignment of the parametric configuration used for the execution of the various Spark Jobs, as well as making a proposal for a redistribution of resources based on the analysis performed for the various Jobs. A review of the critical path review was performed, identifying the most critical processes in the system with the goal of optimising overall times by means of configuration, and redesigning the Big Data processes using best practices to improve their efficiency.

The project is based on Scala/Spark technology under Informatica’s Big Data Management suite, knowledge of which is a priority in making the various specific parametric configurations and modifications.

Batch monitor

Batch monitor

Global Batch Monitoring and Control Project for the Corporate & Investment Banking area of a Multinational Entity, the objective of which is to develop an application for real-time monitoring of the various systems…

We developed the project based on a Kafka consumer for reading from a topic and generation of all the transformations necessary and storage in Elasticsearch. Design, maintenance and updating of the indexes are carried out in Elastic; with design of the dashboards in Kibana (mainly those particular to Accounting and Murex).

In addition to Kafka and Elastic technologies, the project is based primarily on process development with Apache NIFIs: the design process for reading Rest API (Accounting), the process for reading Syslog, as well as the process for dumping to Kafka after the necessary transformations.

Global data management and governance models

Global data management and governance models

Organisations that have global data propose to create a core standard or base of common processes, products and services based on a shared data model that brings together the needs of this framework of common needs. Once the reference model has been defined, it will serve as a starting point for launching new projects, ensuring improved efficiency in development of new portfolios as they are based on a homogeneous standard focused on a common model.

Bluetab collaborates with one of the leading Spanish banks on the various functional fields of work and on the technical involvements that make them up, with these being:

  • barra-bluetab Roles
  • barra-bluetab Processes
  • barra-bluetab Methodology
  • barra-bluetab Tools
  • barra-bluetab Common governance framework

Participating with the architecture area in the impact analysis of the requirements and levers for multi-entity model support. The implementation is based on evolution to a data-centric model, where application construction is based on the “core” data with common and cross-governance, based on the model’s principles or levers:

  • barra-bluetab Cross-view of data
  • barra-bluetab Technology strategy based on microservices and a hybrid multi-cloud that enables application decoupling
  • barra-bluetab End-to-end functional and technical data governance with centralised consent and privacy management.

RDA regulatory

RDA regulatory

In line with the needs of financial institutions as regards Risk Data Aggregation (RDA) systems and reporting, Bluetab was involved initially with the banks of systemic importance (2015-2017) and subsequently collaborated with other Spanish financial institutions (2019-2020) for their compliance with the supervisory standard set by the Basel Committee (BCBS 239).

Subsequently with the other Spanish banks (2019-2020). Due to the resulting requirements, information systems and reporting techniques have received increasing attention from the regulatory agencies, which have focused on transferring the criticality of accurately reporting the main indicators of risk, exposure, assets, liabilities and obligations, etc.

Bluetab has carried out projects of various types, domestically and internationally, for design and construction of a data mart to provision the Risk Department reports applicable to RDA, in addition to a redefinition of the current reports adapted to the new methodology for compliance with the principles they require for effective fulfilment of the requirements. In the international project, it was necessary to package a base model (core) that has subsequently been adapted to the particular circumstances of the local entities.

To carry out the different projects, the processes were built in PowerCenter with the construction of scorecards and validation of information in MicroStrategy in the global project for banks of systemic importance due to their global involvement, and in DataStage and OBIEE for the Spanish financial institution.

MIFID regulation

September 10, 2020 by Bluetab

MIFID regulation

Adapting to the normative, regulatory and supervisory frameworks are a key factor in Financial Institutions to ensure compliance with the different transpositions of regulations and directives at the European and national level (Spain). Bluetab collaborates with the main Spanish banks to adapt their data platforms and thus comply with the growing requirements and regulatory demands that they have been forced to face in the last five years. In line with these collaborations, Bluetab has generated a balanced scorecard to comply with the reports required by MIFID, the acronym in English of the European Directive on markets in financial instruments. This directive regulates the provision of investment services in terms of the way in which they inform, advise or sell financial products to their current or potential clients, as well as the way in which they offer services for the execution of operations on financial instruments.

The reporting carried out by Bluetab for one of the main Spanish Financial Entities, facilitates a control and monitoring of the application of the regulations in the offices, allowing access at the level of detail by center, client and product axes. The MIFID dashboard allows the entity to measure the degree of compliance with the regulations and to be able to report to the regulator correctly “governed” information in terms of reliability and traceability, complying with the generated reports, the specified requirements such as:

  • barra-bluetab Compliance monitoring
  • barra-bluetab Detail of the information at the client level
  • barra-bluetab Possibility of Self-service to users

The project consists in the provisioning and generation of the control panel that allows the storage and exploitation of the information related to the consent of the client’s data from the information originating in the Big Data Informational to the SQL Server DB on a daily basis (15 days) and on an aggregate weekly basis (3 weeks). The scope includes the functional and business analysis, with the realization of the logical and physical model, the design of reports and the construction, as well as the information validation.

The main technologies used were Microstrategy for reporting and Datastage and SQL Server for provisioning and storage.
